Snack, Day Twenty

  • Nature's Valley Trail Mix chewy mixed berry granola bar
  • mug of peach-apricot tea

Such a relief to take something out of a box and eat it. This snack was actually a nice break from my day, as I stopped to sip the tea and relax a little.

I always used to see meal times as an opportunity to slow down, collect my thoughts, and reinvigorate my mind as well as my body. When I lived with my parents, it was the time of day when we caught each other up on our lives, often extended well past the actual eating time into conversation and general quality time.

I'm not sure exactly when or why I've changed my attitude toward meals as a chore or something I have to "deal with" - most likely when I started living by myself a few years ago and became the only one responsible for all the cooking. I had hoped that moving in with my boyfriend would bring back the sit-down meals and occasions for relaxation, but we tend more toward fighting about who should go to the grocery or cook, bickering about how things are prepared, and then shoving food in our faces while we watch TV or retreat to separate rooms and eat in front of our computers. I'm not wild about that, and should probably say something to him when he gets back.

Anyway, it was good to have this peaceful moment to remind me of those thoughts about eating and relaxing.
